Ceremony of Bhai Dooj:

On this particular day, every sister invites her brothers for the feast of brother's favourite sweets and other items. The whole festival is surrounded by brother's duty to protect his sister and sister's blessings for her brother. On the day of Bhai Dooj, sisters do the Arati of their brothers and apply Tika on the forehead of their broters. Because of this reason, this festival is also known as Bhai Tika. Tika represents the sister's prayers for her brother for his long, happy and healthy life. In the return of his sisters' praying, brother gives her some gifts or token money. In Haryana, there is one particular ritual connected with this festival that the women who do not have any brother, worship the moon god. The women in Haryana apply mehendi on their hands on this auspicious festival. It is said that the sisters whose brother can not come at their home on this day, send the prayer to their brother through moon god. As like brother, sisters perform the aarti of the moon god. Because of this reason, Hindu children are used to calling the moon as Chandamama. The word chandamama builds with two words i.e. chanda and mama. Chanda means moon and mama mean mother's brother.
