Sandip Chatterjee (Faculty and Acting Dean at FTII) says, “This is not acceptable at all. Obviously the students are our responsibility & it is surprising that no one from the main administration is here with us. The action is legitimate and is not justified at all.”

The students will be produced in the court today for 6 charges on them, non-bailable offence, voluntarily hurting people, punishment of wrongful constraints, unlawful assembly, criminal intimidation& obstructing a public service officer to do his genuine duty. They are in big trouble as police have registered many serious charges on the students. The students held the director in his own cabin & refused to let him go until their concerns were solved. The registrar and the director made a call to the police and hence the result turned bad for the students. In defense, the students said that they were mistreated and invariably manhandled by the administration.

One of the FTII student surprisingly responded on the arrest claiming
“The government is really fast as we all wonder why the students be arrested in midnight when the trouble is not as big as it seems. We are surprised at the insensitive timing of the government.”

The students has been protesting for the incomplete assessment of films of 2008 batch. They are pretty sure that the assessment was aimed and politically motivated so as to get rid of total of 50 students of 2008 batch. The protest has grapevine to several states of the country and it too has got the support of the Bollywood celebrity urging that Gajendra Chauhan ( Chairman) is not the valid candidate for that position and prestige of the institute is ruining because of him as he lacks necessary credentials to lead FTII.

The controversy had been erupting since the day when Chauhan acted as Yudhisthir in Mahabharat was selected for the chairman designation of the FTII. He had recently joined the BJP & has been a dignitary now as he was invited for the National Executive Council Saffron Party.
